We have compiled some of the common features found in massage chairs:

Air Massage System:

An air massage system uses a compressor specially designed air legs. Specialized software programs control an array of solenoid valves to deliver two different parts of the massage chair.  An air massage system enables coverage of the larger muscles and areas of the body which cannot be reached through other means.

Automatic Massage Programs:

Massage chairs come with pre-programmed massages. Normally, these are single button programs which operate the entire massage chair. Most massage chairs have themes of programs such as shiatsu, Swedish, deep tissue and acupressure.

Back Massage:

One of the important areas of a massage chair is the back massage. A roller mechanism is used to provide different types of massage motion. Most manufacturers have adopted a three motor roller system. This provides the work between the kneading, percussion and the rolling movements. Each of these functions would have its own dedicated motor.

Body Scanning:

A variety of different electronic sensors are used for scanning the body. This is done in order to better customize the massage for each individual. These massage chair may locate different points of the body such as the shoulders. Some sophisticated sensors are able to take readings of the individuals in three dimensions.

Calf & Foot Massager:

Most massage chairs come with a calf and foot massager. Some massage chairs only had a calf massager. It may not have the part which allows you to massage the calf separately from the foot. The leg rest typically has a leg well win it only massage is the calf. Or it'll have a calf well and leg well to stick your feet inside.

Extendable Leg Rest:

Some leg rest on massage chairs are extendable. This can be an important feature for better targeting the massage on your legs. It is also important depending on your height. Taller users require an extendable leg rest to better accommodate the massage.

Manual Massage Programs:

Massage chairs come with the option to have manual massage programs. Typically these are using the kneading, percussion and rolling massage mode. These individual techniques can be used individually and sometimes in combination. You may also be able to target specific areas such as the neck, shoulders or lower back.

Manual Recline:

Massage chairs have an adjustable chair back and also leg rest. You are able to change the angle of both of these. A manual recliner uses a lever to adjust the angle. Sometimes, a manual adjustment may require the user to push down on the leg rest or to set up to allow the chair back to return upright.

Power Recline:

The power recline function is a motorized feature in many massage chairs. The power recline works off the touch of a button. You can push a button and the motor will recline the chair back. The leg rest may also be motorized as well. This enables you to push a button to raise or lower the leg rest.

Remote Control:

Massage chairs contained many different features and require a remote control. The remote control lets you choose the types of massages, where you would like to be massage and the duration. There are many different remote styles and shapes. Most remote controls have an LCD screen which shows visually the operations of the chair.

Wheels:

To move a massage chair, wheels are usually integrated into the chair frame. Most massage chairs have a pair of wheels in the back. To move the massage chair, typically you must lift up the leg rest and then lift up the chair onto its wheels. You can then walk the chair forwards or backwards to where you would like to move it.
